Taskforce Software Ltd was established in 1986 to provide easy to use software primarily for the clothing industry. Now based in Bristol, we have links with companies across the UK and our products are distributed worldwide. We have supplied computer systems to a variety of companies including Oxford Industries, W&G, Sunbrand, AMF, British Van Heusen, Peter England and several M&S suppliers.

Before founding Taskforce Software Ltd the directors worked for other software houses supplying computer systems to the clothing industry. These systems were written in PASCAL, originally running on the Apple // and later ported to IBM compatible machines. They covered many applications relevant to manufacturing such as real time WIP monitoring, piecework payroll, bar-coding and stock control. Although these programs were initially written nearly twenty years ago, some of the systems are still being used and are supported under maintenance contracts by Taskforce Software Ltd.

The first products developed by Taskforce Software Ltd were written under MSDOS first in Lattice C and then in C++ using the Zortech / Symantec compiler. These included:

A bespoke package for British Van Heusen which tracked goods (in this case shirts) using bar-coded box end labels on their journey through the factory and via lorry to the warehouse. The bar-codes were read using Symbol-MSI portable bar-code readers, and the information processed centrally via links to an IBM mini System 38 at the head office, later replaced by an AS400.

PISCES2 enabled printers to produce accurate job costings quickly and easily. The information used to produce a quote was immediately stored for future reference allowing job sheets, invoices etc to be produced with a minimum amount of effort vastly reducing the time spent.

In 1990 we started writing for Windows 3.0 using Microsoft C 5.1 and the Windows SDK. We switched to 32-bit Windows in 1995 using Microsoft Visual C++ and MFC. We also gained experience in a wide range of other development tools and techniques including JET and SQL Server database access with DAO and ADO.

Most of the software currently developed by Taskforce Software Ltd is written in VC++ 6.0 with MFC. We are now starting the transition to .NET applications using Visual C# (C Sharp).
